WECT: It looks like it could be at least a year before residents in the Monkey Junction area are annexed into the city of Wilmington.

A dispute over the designation of a struggling Colorado mall as “blighted” might serve as testing ground for how much recourse commercial property owners have against the power of eminent domain.

The City of Westminster, Colo., is attempting to seize the land belonging to the owners of Westminster Mall in order to make way for a transit-oriented mixed-use project. And legal experts say that the case illustrates how cities may attempt to evade laws put in place in recent years to prevent the use of eminent domain for the purpose of economic development.  more…

Some of the politicians in Raleigh are continuing their push to seize and take over Alcoa’s private property along the Yadkin River.

Now, they are pushing bills that would create another layer of government called the “Uwharrie Regional Resources Commission”.

This new layer of government is just another attempt to lay the groundwork for a state government takeover of Alcoa’s private property on the Yadkin River.

No matter how you dress it up, a property grab is a property grab.  Call your State Representative today and tell them to vote against HB 972 and HB 1973.

Wilmington eyeing Ogden area for annexation

Wilmington Star-News: Staff for the city of Wilmington have proposed that a 535-acre tract near the intersection of Gordon Road and Market Street be the next neighborhood City Council considers for annexation.

The area, one of two in Ogden that is in the city’s future annexation plans, topped the list of 10 communities city staff say will likely be considered for annexation over the next two decades.   More…
